Runner & Guest Handbook

2015 Handbook anticipated March 2015

The Vermont City Marathon will be timed using the latest ChronoTrack B-Tag system.

Our ability to provide accurate timing and essential medical assistance when necessary depends on YOU.

Follow these steps to help us serve you:

Bib & ChronoTrack B-Tags
Complete the emergency contact information on the back of your bib. Regardless of how physically fit you feel on race day, completing this information may save your life.
Your ChronoTrack B-Tag is a timing device adhere to the back of your bib.
Pin the bib to the front of your shirt.
Keep your bib visible at all times. Do not hide or cover your race bib.
Do not fold, crumple or otherwise alter your bib in anyway.  Doing so may destroy your timing device.
No Tag, No Time. No Exception.
ChronoTrack B-Tags are non-transferable.
The ChronoTrack B-Tag provides runners with accurate race timing. Through a computerized system, your tag transmitter will be read at the start, finish and intermediate locations. You must cross all locations to get an official time.
You must wear the ChronoTrack B-Tag provided in your packet. Do not trade tags or bibs with anyone. Your time corresponds with your bib number.
All runners must be registered to participate; running under someone another runners name is grounds for disqualification according to USATF rules.

Marathoners Participating in Relay Teams
Marathoners may participate as a member of a relay team.  The Marathoner must wear both their Marathon bib and Relay Team bib, and must exchange the wrist band at a designated 3-5 person relay Exchange Zone in Oakledge Park.
Please read our Relay Team/Marathoner Scenario Info Sheet for everything you need to know about which bibs to wear and where to exchange.

Gear Check
Battery Park: Open 7:15am- 9:10am
Gear checked at Battery Park will be available for pick-up in Waterfront Park at 10:00am

Flynn School: Open 9:00am-12:15pm. Intended for 4th leg relay runners only.
Gear checked at the Flynn School will be available for pick up in Waterfront Park at 12:45pm.

Note: Participants MUST use the clear gear check bags provided in your runner bag at Race Packet Pick-Up. NO OTHER BAGS will be checked, NO EXCEPTIONS.  Please do not leave bags of any kind unattended. Any items left unattended will be removed immediately and destroyed.

Gear check is intended for race day gear (warm-ups, post-race clothing).  You should write your name, bib # and cell phone number on your gear check bag in the space provided. We promise to take good care of your possessions, but urge you not to check your valuables.

Please claim your gear as soon as possible after you complete the race.  At 2:30pm, unclaimed gear will be transferred to the RunVermont office (One Main Street, Suite 304, Burlington).
Items not claimed in one week will be donated to charity.

TransportationThe Pearl Street Exchange, Park Street Exchange and Battery Park Exchange Zones are within walking distance from the start (less than 1/4 mile).  This map pinpoints the location of all four Relay Exchange Zones. A shuttle is available for runners going to and from the Flynn School Exchange. The shuttle is located north of Battery Park on North Street near North Avenue and runs continuously from 8:30 a.m. to 1pm. Please do not wait for the last bus. Flynn School is located approx. 3.5 miles from Battery Park.

Buses returning from Flynn School will transport runners who have completed leg #4 of the race. The bus loading/unloading area is located on Barley Road, near Flynn School. Volunteers will direct you to Flynn School and back. Buses will ONLY transport returning runners from the Barley Road loading area. Your race bib is your bus pass. Buses WILL NOT stop to pick up runners walking back along North Avenue

Relay Exchange Zones/Legs

As runners approach all relay zones you will see signs that correspond with your bib number. We ask that teams line up in the area indicated on the signs. Only runners waiting to be tagged into the race are allowed in the Relay Zones. It is important that both the incoming and outgoing runners (those finishing and beginning) are aware of the sectioning and wait in their designated area. This will not only facilitate your hand-off, but those of other runners as well.

Relay zones are for registered runners only. Have friends and family stay outside the zone.

Aid stations include Vermont Pure Spring Water, Gatorade, port-o-lets and medical services.

Complimentary post-race showers are available at the Burlington YMCA  to runners with a  Vermont City Marathon race bib. The Burlington YMCA is located .7 miles from Waterfront Park at 266 College Street (map).
