To ensure a fair and equitable process and a quality experience for all participants relay teams are selected by lottery.
A total of 650 2-person and 650 3-5 person relay teams are randomly selected from the lottery entries submitted between January 1 and January 31 each year.

Lottery & Team Registration Timeline
Lottery Opens: January 1, 2013 (6:00 a.m.)
Lottery Closes: January 31, 2013 (midnight)
Lottery Results Notifications Sent: February 13, 2013
Team Registration Link Sent: February 18, 2013
Team Member Registration Due: May 10, 2013

Lottery Registration
As of January 31, 2013 the Relay Lottery is CLOSED.
Teams selected in the lottery were notified February 13, 2013
Individuals not selected in the lottery and who still wish to acquire a team are encouraged to visit the Relay Team Transfer Board or fundraise for a Miles for a Mission partner.

2-Person Team: $135
3-5 Person Team: $190

Team registration confirmation will be available here after teams are selected and notified (mid-February).


Captain Responsibilities
Team Captains are responsible for naming the team, designating the team's division and inviting team members to join and register. Instructions for registering as a Team Captain and accessing/editing team information is supplied below under "Team Registration". Prior to race weekend, the Team Captain must also designate ONE person (themselves or a team member) to pick-up the team's packet at Race packet Pick-Up. The team member picking up the team packet must provide a valid photo ID.

Team Registration (including Team Captain/Team Member Changes)

RunVermont must be informed of ALL relay team changes prior to the start of the race or the team will be disqualified and ineligible for any awards or prizes. This may affect your ability to participate in future races.

Deadlines: All team changes must be made using the Team Management Platform by May 10, 2013. There is no fee for team changes through May 10, 2013. After May 10, 2013 ALL team changes must be made at the Sport & Fitness EXPO on May 24 & 25. A $10 late-change fee will apply; proceeds from this fee will be donated to the Friends of the Island Line Trail "Bikepath Rehabilitation Fund".

EXPO Team Changes: After May 10 all changes must be made at the Sport & Fitness EXPO on May 24 & 25. To make changes at the EXPO, please come prepared with the following:
  • Confirmation email dated Feb 18 (ONLY required for transfer for team captain changes)
  • Name, DOB and emergency contact info for all NEW team members
  • $10 cash or check (made out to RunVermont). $10 fee is per team, not per change. Funds will be donated to the Bike Path Rehabilitation Fund.
Transfer Policy
All runners must be registered to participate; running under someone else's name is grounds for disqualification according to USATF rules.
The Relay Team Transfer Board allows a Team Captain to find someone to take an unwanted team and/or for a team to find a runner(s) to fill their team
The Relay Team Transfer Board also allows runners whose teams were not selected or who do not have a team to find a team to run on

Relay teams may not defer a team earned in the lottery to the next year
All transactions are private between runners; the seller must arrange for payment with the new team captain. RunVermont will not issue any refunds or facilitate payment between private parties.

Transfer Board
If you are interested in selling your team's bib, finding additional runners, or want to buy a team bib, please post your message on our Relay Team Transfer Board. Please note: All transactions are private between runners; the seller must arrange for payment with the new team captain. RunVermont will not issue any refunds or facilitate payment between private parties. For team transfer sales, we ask that all transfers take place for no more than the face value of the relay team plus the transaction fees charged by ChronoTrack:
  • 2-person team : $135 + $9.55 fee
  • 3-5 person team: $190 + $13.26 fee

Participation Policy
RunVermont reserves the right to restrict participation in any event for violation of RunVermont rules and regulations.

All runners must be registered to participate.
Running under someone else's name is grounds for disqualification according to USATF rules.
Relay Teams may be transferred online until April; from May 1-May 25 all team changes (including captain changes) must be made in person at Race Packet Pickup on Friday, May 24 or May 25, 2012. See Transfer Policy above.
All runners must stay on the designated race course.
Participants must finish within 6 hours and keep to a sub 13:45 minute pace per mile.
Bikes, rollerblades, strollers and skateboards are not allowed on the course.
Headphones are not prohibited, but are discouraged.
The marathon is sanctioned and certified by USATF.
The relay is open to all ages.
ONLY ONE TEAM MEMBER MAY CROSS THE FINISH LINE. This person must be wearing the ChronoTrack Tag™ in order for the team to receive an official time.
