Our Amazing National Anthem singer for this year’s People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon is Jim Diego!
Jim is on a quest to sing the national Anthem in all 50 states followed by running the full marathon distance in all 50 states! He has already completed all 50 states in July of last year for half marathons, and now is working on it for full marathons – Vermont will be his 27th state. It will be his 29th state singing the national anthem.
As of May 2016, Jim has completed 82 half marathons and 36 marathons, both in the US and internationally. His international races consist of half marathons in Canada, Curaçao, Ireland, Denmark, and England, and full marathons in Germany, Portugal, Italy, Spain and Canada. This summer he’ll be running in Australia and Vietnam.
If you think all of that is impressive, check out why they call Jim “the victory headstand runner”.
After every distance race Jim takes a picture of himself doing an unassisted headstand with his medals hanging from his feet in front of an iconic landmark or picturesque setting of the place he had just ran.
To learn more about Jim’s amazing journeys, read his blog: www.thevictoryheadstandrunner.com and come hear him belt out our national anthem at 6:55 am on stage in Battery Park on race morning! Then you can cheer him though his 26.2 miles with smiles.
