The Vermont City Marathon & Relay features two relay events, both of which run concurrently with the full marathon. Runners in all events run alongside each other.
In the 2 Person Relay, two runners evenly split the Marathon distance of 26.2 miles. The 3-5 Person Relay allows 3, 4, or 5-member teams to divide the full Marathon distance into smaller segments, ranging from 3.3 to 6.5 miles.
Team Captains ONLY should register for the exact desired team(s). Please use a valid credit card otherwise the purchase will not be recorded.

Team Member Registration Post May 13: ALL team changes must be made at the Sport & Fitness Expo on May 22 & 23 A $25 late-change fee will apply; proceeds from this fee will be donated to RunVermont Youth Running Programs. Team changes can be made at the Sport & Fitness Eexpo on Friday, May 23 from 1:00pm – 8:00pm or Saturday, May 24 from 9:00am – 3:00pm.
- Relay Access Registration is open in January
- The Team Captain will automatically be charged the relay team fee on the credit card supplied during registration. A registration is not complete if an invalid credit card is used.
- Team Captains will receive an e-mail with a link to your team page; don’t lose this e-mail!
- At your team page, you can change your team name, division and add or invite your teammates.
- Individuals that are closed out of the open registration and still wish to acquire a team are encouraged post on social media.

Race Packet Pick-Up
Packet Pick-Up Policy
Each relay team must designate ONE registered team member to pick up the entire team’s race shirts and packet, which includes bibs, pins, and medical and information sheets. Photo ID is required, NO exceptions.
Photo ID is required for all runners picking up their bib, B Tag or Ankle Timing Band (3-5 relay only), and race packet. No exceptions. Be prepared to show ID.
If you are unable to pick up your bib, a proxy can do so by presenting a copy of the runner’s photo ID or a copy of the runner’s confirmation email. Please understand that without ONE of these documents we will not be able to release the race packet to anyone other than the registered runner.
Race Shirt sizes are not guaranteed; please arrive early for best selection.

Runners are encouraged to pick up their bibs at the Expo on Friday or Saturday.

Locate your bib number at the Bib Look-Up Station which is adjacent to Packet Pick-Up. After packet pick-up is complete, continue to race shirt pick-up.

Secured gear check is provided for marathoners and relay participants. Gear check will be available by the band-shell in Battery Park from 6:15am- 8:10am. Gear checked at Battery Park will be available for pick-up in Waterfront Park at 10:00am.
Note: Participants MUST use the clear gear check bags provided in your runner bag at Race Packet Pick-Up. NO OTHER BAGS will be checked, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Gear check is intended for race-day gear (warm-ups, post-race clothing). We promise to take good care of your possessions but urge you not to check your valuables.
Please claim your gear as soon as possible after you complete the race. At 1:30pm unclaimed gear will be transferred to the RunVermont office (One Main Street, Suite 304, Burlington). Items not claimed after one week following the race will be donated to charity.
Once you cross the finish line, Marathon and Half & Half Relay Runners will receive a medal at the finish. 3-5 Relay Teams will pickup their medals at the Timberlane Dental Tent. A volunteer will hand you a foil blanket and a bottle of water for your short walk to runner services. As you exit the finish area, follow signs to the Reunion Area, Runners’ Food Tent, and Gear Check.
An INFO booth is centrally located in Waterfront Park If you need to report a missing child, please do so at the INFO booth.
Meeting Family and Friends
Meet family and friends in the alphabetized Reunion Area, located a short walk from the finish area.
Mile marker signs are positioned every mile on the course. Time clocks are positioned at the half-way mark and the finish.

Unofficial race-day results will be posted in the Awards and Merchandise Tent in Waterfront Park. Unofficial results are also posted on CoolRunning on race day. The post-race festival begins in Waterfront Park at 9:00 am on race day. Celebrate at the finish area in Waterfront Park with Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks as a dramatic backdrop. From the Runners’ Food Tent to fare from local vendors, there is plenty to eat and drink for everyone.
The start line is located on Battery Street next to Battery Park. There will roughly 5000 runners at the start line, so we recommend you give yourself plenty of time to get there. Runners are asked to line up according to race pace. Pace signs will be visible in the start area.
Preferred Start Corral
For a relay team to qualify for the Preferred Corral, you must submit a qualifying time of 1:30:00 or faster (half marathon), 42:00 or faster (10k) or 20:00 or faster (5k) from a USATF Certified Course or Athletics Canada Certified. Results from track meets may be submitted. We will also accept 5k results from non-certified courses such as Cross Country courses if the time is 19:30 or faster. Due to our limited staff resources, these are the only distances we will consider for inclusion in the Preferred Corral for relay teams. The race date must be between January 1, 2018, and May 10, 2020. You may submit a qualifying time at registration or via email anytime before May 10, 2020.
VCM provides race day shuttle service to and from participating hotels.

Ferry service dates change annually; please visit Lake Champlain Ferries to check ferry season dates, locations, and schedules.
Burlington International Airport (BTV)
Burlington is serviced by the Burlington International Airport located in South Burlington and just 3.6 miles from the Race Start.
Most aid stations have trained medical staff, radio operators and port-o-lets.
Gatorade Endurance Formula – Lemon Lime at all aid stations. Energy gel is available at miles 11.8 and 18.8.
